Important Information

ARRIVAL DETAILS

Hidden Valley Yurts is a small family run yurt campsite – as such we don’t have a staffed reception so we do need to know when you are arriving so we can be here to greet you and transport your luggage to the yurt field.   We also need to know in advance if you have ordered a grocery delivery or we may not be around to receive it.

Arrival times – after 5:00* pm (free luggage transport available until 7.00pm, after 7.00pm a £10 late arrival fee will be required for luggage transfer down to the yurt site.)

Departure times – from 09:00 to 10:30* am. Departure time are booked on a 1st come 1st served basis the day before departure. Sorry we are unable to take advance departure time bookings.

*See below for information of early arrival/late departure

Contact Details

Sat Nav – Please use the post code NP16 6QU or you may end up at the wrong Lower Glyn Farm. Our address Lower Glyn Farm, Llanishen, Chepstow, Monmouthshire, NP16 6QU the post code gets you to the end of our track but some of the older systems send you to Lower Glyn Farm in Devaudan – which is 4 miles away.   Tom Tom and modern sat navs all get you to the end of our drive.

Please note we are not Glyn Barn (the barn conversion at the end of our drive) – follow the track past the Hidden Valley Yurts sign for about 200yd to get to our car park (our house is on the left and the car park is on the right– we are quite limited for car parking so please let us know if you are bringing more than 2 cars per yurt.

Phone Numbers: Office 01600 860723 – if we don’t appear when you arrive, give us a ring, or try the house but we may be down at the yurts checking other guests in, so just follow the signs to the yurts and we’ll collect your luggage later. Sorry due to lack of signal there is no mobile number.

Please note – there is no lighting between the car park and the yurt field and some nights it can be hard to find your hand, never mind a yurt!  Don’t be put off – just think of the lovely star gazing you can do once you get to your yurt and make sure you bring a good torch and appropriate footwear.

1st time visitors nearly always bring too much kit – we don’t mind but this is camping made easy so it’s probably worth reading the list of what is here before you pack.

Early Arrivals/Late Departures

We are always happy to extend your holiday with early arrivals/late departures, provided the yurt isn’t booked out before or after your stay – but in peak season we are always fully booked and need to clean all 5 yurts and carry out the ground and building maintenance and achieving this is quite a push.  If you are looking to kill time, there is a small town called Usk, 6 miles away, which has a lovely privately owned castle which you can visit free (they do ask for a donation in the pot).  Usk also has a couple of cafés, lots of pubs and a few shops.

Check list: Don’t forget to bring

  • Our directions – can be downloaded from our website
  • Torch – it’s dark here – no lights between the yurt field and the car park
  • Sleeping Bags or Duvets plus sheets for the single beds (sheets for the double beds are provided), pillows, pillowcases.
  • Cots and bedding (if required)
  • Towels
  • Wellies – even in summer!   Crocs are also useful – don’t forget the short cut is across the stream!
  • Soft shoes/Slippers to use inside the yurt
  • Food and drink – we are 10 miles from a supermarket so you may want to stock up – there is a freezer as well as the fridge.  No need to bring bottled water though – we have our own spring – you can take some home with you.  Don’t forget your espresso coffee if you want to use the espresso maker.
  • A duck (plastic!) if you want to race it down the stream and perhaps something to put in the fairy garden – the fairies love things like shells and ribbons

The Bathroom facilities are:

Each Yurt has its own private bathroom facilities (as of the 11th of April 2022. N.B. Yurt 4 & 5 may temporarily have to share their faculties during high occupancy/high season with one of the couples in the bell tents.)

Each bathroom has a bath with a rain shower above and hand shower.

  • Communal BBQ’s – these are situated alongside the pizza oven
  • Safari Tent dining area – alongside pizza oven – 6m long table
  • We have available (for a refundable deposit) a Dutch Oven for those of you interested in campfire cooking.

The Yurts have

  • Beds (yurts 1,2 & 3 have SuperKing beds, Yurts 4 & 5 have a king-size double bed) and a mix of daybeds and futons.  We have a small number of duvets & pillows available to hire – but these need to be booked in advance (and this does not include duvet covers, sheets or pillowcases which you can hire separately)
  • A mix of furniture including some decorated Mongolian furniture in each.
  • wood burning stove and chiminea on deckwe supply enough paper, sticks and wood for normal usage of the yurt wood burning stove for the duration of your stay.  Sadly, due to several guests using the sticks and wood on the campfire, we have had to introduce a charge for additional logs and sticks.  A large sack of logs is £8 and a sack of sticks £5.  Twigs and fallen wood can be collected free from our woods.  Firelighters are available to purchase at £1 per pack.
  • Throws, rugs, and cushions (please do not use these or leave them outside, if you do you may be charged for laundry)

  • Chairs and tables on each deck

General

  • Outside the kitchen/shower building is a large, decked area with a covered pergola, tables, chairs, and loungers.
  • There is a campfire located in the centre of the field, and we try and keep a stock of campfire wood nearby but foraging for firewood in the woods is always encouraged (and great fun).  Please see our terms and conditions regarding charges for extra campfire wood.
  • Boule’s pitch – boules are available so please ask if you want to use them (you will be responsible for their return) – or bring your own
  • 43 acres of woods to build dens and play in, 37 acres of old meadows rich with wildlife and a huge range of flora and fauna.  A beautiful brook just perfect to dam and the Highland cattle and sheep to watch.

Groceries

  • The local garage shop has now reopened (and will soon be selling fuel), and the nearest supermarket is 3 miles away in Raglan – or you can stock up in Chepstow (you will pass a Budgens), Monmouth or Usk on your way to us (there is plenty of fridge and freezer space). All of these are a 15 – 20-minute drive from us.
  • Sadly, we have had to suspend the Supermarket delivery service we provided due to its popularity, we just do not have the manpower to accept, transport and unpack shopping orders for all 5 yurts and the Lake House. You can still order and receive deliveries to the farm, but you will need to be on-site to receive them. Any deliveries that arrive when you are not here will not be accepted and sent away. Hopefully this will be a temporary halt in services until the employment crisis is over.
  • For organic vegetables and local produce, there is a wonderful community shop and café in Brockweir (it won the BBC Good Food award for the best Community Shop) about 20 minutes’ drive away.
  • For local produce, there is a comprehensive list on http://www.localfoodtalks.co.uk/southeast/where-to-buy

6 miles away (about 15-minute drive) is the small town of Usk which has a good Spar which opens quite late.  Usk has a wonderful Farmers Market 10.00 am – 1.00pm on the 1st and 3rd Saturday in the month – if you go, don’t miss the superb award-winning Trealy Farm produce – the owner James has won no end of awards including the BBC Good Food chacuterie award in 2011 http://www.trealyfarm.com/

For fantastic meat, baked goods and all those items you may have forgotten, we recommend the Nisa Store in Raglan – 3 miles, 15 minutes’ drive away, opens quite long hours and has brilliant butchery and bakers at the back of the store. We defiantly recommend the sausages and pork pies. The meat is superb and very reasonable. If asked they are happy to put together a BBQ pack for collection the next day or give them a call before you arrive on 01291 690215. Raglan also has the award-winning Butcher N S James – but they can be expensive – fantastic quality though.
