Yurts & Facilities
Glamping is all about getting back to nature with a few more creature comforts. At Hidden Valley Yurts you can enjoy the natural simplicity of a camping holiday with nature on your (Mongolian) doorstep but without having to pitch your tent! Our beautiful valley is the perfect place to unwind, relax and enjoy all that nature has to offer. If you don’t want to, you don’t even have to leave our site. Everything is here already for you to enjoy a wonderful holiday.
For a full list of everything which is included with your visit please see the Facilities & What’s included page.
ABOUT THE YURTS:
We have 5 fully furnished, beautifully painted, Mongolian yurts. For detailed descriptions of each yurt, please click on the Yurts page.
3 yurts sleep up to 7 people and 2 yurts sleep up to 5 people.
The yurts are located in a south-facing, wildflower meadow. There are plenty of paths to follow, a small stream runs along the bottom of the field and there are views to the west of the Welsh hills. There are no caravans, touring tents or holiday cottages at Hidden Valley, so there will only ever be a maximum of 31 people on site.
Each yurt sits on its own individual wooden deck, with chairs, tables, benches, a chimenea, a built in stone BBQ and a wood store. Inside each yurt the large crown lets in light and a rain cap can be removed for star gazing on fine evenings. Our yurts are waterproof and thickly lined with sheep’s wool felt for cosy warmth on cooler days. Because of this insulation it takes less than half an hour for the wood burning stove to heat the yurt up.
Each yurt is lit with a ring of solar powered fairy lights and solar lights outside, there are solar powered and tea light lanterns, plus a torch is provided but you may wish to bring your own camping light as well.
Comfort and luxury is what glamping is about. Each yurt is beautifully hand painted and individually furnished and you will find lots of cushions and throws in your yurt to snuggle into; ponchos for chilly evenings and we even keep a large box of spare wellies in case you’ve forgotten yours.
A good night’s sleep is an essential element of glamping. Yurts 1, 2 and 3 have a super king-size bed for added luxury and Yurts 4 and 5 have a king-size bed. There are single wooden futons or daybeds in all of the yurts. Pillows are supplied but not bed linen. You will need to bring your own duvet covers or sleeping bags and sheets.
WELL EQUIPPED KITCHENS:
Including full size stoves, dishwasher, microwave, crockery, cooking utensils and espresso machine. Guests have their own fridge and food cupboard. There is plenty of seating including 2 high chairs. Yurt 1 has exclusive use of a separate kitchen which is fully equipped and was completely rebuilt in 2017.
BATHROOM FACILITIES:
Include a full size bath with shower over, separate shower, 2 flushing toilets. Yurts 1 and 2 have their own compost loos as well.
EATING AREA:
There is a wood-burning pizza oven, communal BBQ, safari style dining tent and central campfire with seating around. We supply firewood where possible from off cuts or you can help yourself from our 40 acres of woodland, but please don’t saw down living trees (yes, this has happened!).
GAMES:
Below the veranda there’s a boules pitch, badminton net and flat mowed area for games. There are also loads of board games provided and equipment for many other games.
80 ACRES OF WILDFLOWER MEADOWS AND WOODLAND:
Make dens, wander through the meadows, meet the Scottish highland cows, sheep, pony and our hens. Tilly the spaniel loves to show guests around too. See our About Us page for more on what there is to see and a map showing local walks.
LOCAL AREA:
We have a great pub a mile away and Monmouth, Chepstow, Usk and Raglan are all about a 15-20 minute drive away. For more on what there is to do in the area see our Out and About page.
GROUPS:
We are a really quiet rural location and because this is a valley, noise gets amplified, so please don’t choose us if you are looking to party the night away! We have a complete ban on amplified music and we will only take bookings from adult groups after we’ve talked to you. Read more about Group Bookings here.
First time visitors nearly always bring too much kit – we don’t mind but this is camping made easy so it’s probably worth reading our Facilities & What’s Included page before you pack!
There is nothing else – no gift shop, no vending machine, no washing machines and no tumble dyers. Hidden Valley Yurts is all about peace and quiet, playing and laughter – there are no TVs, computers or music provided, just the sound of the stream and the birds.
