Hidden Valley Yurts

Terms and Conditions and a few safety notes

This is not a manicured campsite with paved paths; in places the terrain is uneven and steep so please make sure all members of your party are aware of this and wear suitable footwear. Wellies are easiest as they can be easily kicked off before entering the yurt.

Bookings and Payments

A 25% deposit is required to make a reservation – this can either be by debit/credit card payment (credit cards subject to a 2.7% surcharge) or by cheque, made payable to Hidden Valley Yurts or by electronic transfer. We are happy to reserve the holiday for 2 days whilst awaiting a deposit cheque but we reserve the right to sell this holiday without further notice after this period. The balance is payable 8 weeks before your holiday – we will send a reminder. If you are an adult only group we do ask you to sign a form confirming you have read and understood our ethos on noise.

Cancellations and Refunds

We realise that sometimes plans change and as such we will always do our best to re-let a holiday - if we are able to do so we will refund the cost of the holiday less a 10% admin charge. We recommend you take holiday cancellation insurance to cover any loss should we not be able to re-let. In the unlikely event of the yurts not being available due to fire, flood or other unforeseen circumstances, Hidden Valley Yurts cannot accept liability or responsibility for any loss, including consequential loss, but the full cost of the holiday will be refunded.

Group Bookings – damage deposit

We have found that when we let the campsite to groups there seems to be an increase in damage/excess cleaning – we are therefore charging a holiday deposit of £100 – this will be returned by cheque within 7 days of the end of your holiday provided there is no damage or excess cleaning required.

Yurt/Facilities Cleaning

Please remember that the showers, loos, kitchen and communal room are shared - each yurt has an individual food cupboard and fridge in the kitchen but the freezer is communal so please clean up after use and try to accommodate others usage. We will empty the bins, clean the showers and loos and take the recycling away daily.

Please do not wear outdoor shoes in the yurt - there is a wellie box inside the door. Please leave your yurt tidy but there is no need to clean out the wood burner (they work better with a layer of old ash).

Breakages/Damage

Always a tricky one - the vast majority of our guests have left the yurt as we expected - we have had a few isolated cases of abuse - but we don't want to penalise the majority of responsible guests by charging a deposit so all we ask is that you leave the yurt tidy and let us know if anything gets broken - we will only charge for replacement in exceptional cases as we expect a degree of wear and tear.

Adult Only Groups

Unlike most yurt campsites we don’t ban single sex groups including hens and stags...but we are primarily a family site and are only able to accommodate those that want to enjoy what we have to offer ie a quiet rural location with lovely walks and outdoor activities like canoeing and mountain biking. Please read our group booking page for more information.

Noise
We do not allow allow any amplified music (this includes radios, ipods with speakers, karaoke machines etc – sorry, but although once you are in the yurt field, it seems to be in the middle of nowhere, any noise rolls up the valley sides and we are very keen not to intrude on the peace of the valley.

Logs, sticks and Campfire wood

We provide sufficient split logs and sticks for normal usage of the wood burning stove, for the duration of your stay and we also keep a supply of campfire wood near to the fire - unfortunately, we have had so many instances of guests burning the split logs and sticks on the campfire that we can no longer supply additional logs and sticks without charge. We provide saws and bags for you to collect firewood from our woodlands and additional bags of logs and sticks are available for sale at a nominal cost.

General Safety/Responsibility for Children

Each yurt has a smoke detector, carbon monoxide detector and a fire extinguisher. There are two exits to each yurt. The stoves are very safe if properly used - instructions are in each yurt and should be read before use.

If you have a campfire please make sure the hose pipe is connected ready - just in case! Camp fires are only allowed in the centre of the main field - the supervision of children is parents/carers responsibility.

The stream has steep sides in places and although it is gentle most of the time, sudden heavy rain can lead to it getting very lively indeed. As with the fire, parents/carers are expected to take responsibility for children.

We take every care to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable holiday, but cannot be held liable for any accidents or consequential loss.

The Farm

Guests are very welcome to wander around the farm - the only exceptions are the garden, the barns and any fields growing hay (we will put a sign on gate) - apart from this you are welcome to walk through acres of wildflower meadows and the 43 acres of woods and we are happy for children to make dens, climb trees etc - but their safety is your responsibility and no liability can be accepted for any accidents.

Under no circumstances should fires be lit anywhere except for the campfire site in the yurt field. Please make sure all members of your party understand this rule. Could you leave all gates as you found them. We know the alpacas look cuddly but they don't really like being touched - so you will have to content yourself with watching them - please don't let children (or adults for that matter) chase them as they are very easily stressed.

Dogs

Dogs (except service dogs) are not permitted under any circumstances. We would be happy to supply you with the names of kennels if you need them.

In the unlikely event of completely inappropriate/dangerous/illegal behaviour we reserve the right to ask guests to leave immediately. Hopefully we will never have to enforce this!

We hope this provides you with sufficient information but if you have any queries, please do not hesitate to give us a ring - we are constantly seeking to improve and welcome suggestions.
