Frequently Asked Questions
Is Hidden Valley Yurts an 'eco friendly' camp site?
We do our utmost to be as eco friendly as possible. We have our own natural water supply and the communal loos are flushed through our reed bed system creating recycled fresh water. We encourage recycling and provide appropriate bins. We have enough mains electric light to ensure safety and comfort and all the yurts have solar powered reading lights. We use wood from our own farm and also from a local supplier. We don't have vehicles on the campsite (other than our own for fetching and carrying luggage and supplies).
Do you allow guests to bring dogs?
No is the straight answer. Dogs (except service dogs) are not permitted under any circumstances, even small well behaved ones. We would be happy to supply you with the names of local kennels if you need them. Our own dogs visit the campsite (especially Tilly, our very friendly Springer Spaniel) and you are very welcome to take them for walks – just ask for their leads if you are leaving the farm, as they are not traffic savvy. In addition a neighbours bouncy lurcher called Daisy is very keen on visiting (although we have tried to discourage this) – therefore– we just can’t guarantee this being a dog free zone although we will always be happy to lock our own dogs up for a few hours (especially around meal times or if they are failing to understand the rules of a ball game!) – what we can’t do is control the neighbours or lock up our farm dogs 24/7 – if you really dislike dogs, it would be better not to book here.
What is the difference between glamping and luxury camping and how luxurious is a yurt holiday?
'Glamping' is quite a new term and really just means glamorous or posh camping! 'Cool Camping' is another term used for yurt camp sites. Luxury is quite a subjective concept but our lovely double beds, soft throws, rugs, fairly lights and all the Mongolian furniture and accessories we supply are way more luxurious than a ground sheet and a flapping tent! Each yurt has a wood burning fire for cosy warmth and on warm days the two doors provide a lovely cool flow of air. The communal kitchen is very well equipped and include an espresso coffee machine, a bread maker, individual fridges for each yurt and plenty of good quality kitchenware. The large tented dining area by the outdoor pizza oven has fairly lights strung around it and with abundant night lights available to use the whole site can look quite magical in the evenings! We like to think that Hidden Valley Yurts offers a great combination of luxury camping with the peace and tranquility of sleeping under canvas in beautiful, natural surroundings.
Do you take groups?
We welcome group bookings but please read our guidelines about hen parties and stag parties. We don't allow amplified music, or rowdy parties - it's just not what we are about. If you want to book a group camping holiday with us you will need to read, sign and return our Group Booking Form agreement before we can confirm your holiday booking.
Do you allow camp fires?
Yes we do! But only in our designated camp fire area which has wooden benches so you can sit and warm yourself, toast your marshmallows and have a sing song if you wish.
Can everyone use the communal dining tent?
We find that some of our guests like to eat in the large tented dining area - especially if they are using the large BBQ and outdoor pizza oven. All the yurts have their own BBQ and some guests like to eat on their own deck. All we ask is that you don't hog the tented dining area every night if someone else wants to use it.
Are children allowed to roam freely on the campsite?
There is a stream and paddling area close to Yurts 1 and 2 and we ask that you supervise small children at all times. We don't have staff 'on duty' so your children's safety is entirely your responsibility. There is a hard flat play area in front of the communal deck and kitchen which makes an ideal play area - why not bring your scooters? The grass is kept fairly long in the yurt field and pathways are either gravel or mown grass.
Can we wander anywhere we wish?
Guests are very welcome to wander around the farm - the only exceptions are the garden, the barns and any fields growing hay (we will put a sign on the gate) – apart from this you are welcome to walk through acres of wildflower meadows and the 43 acres of woods and we are happy for children to make dens, climb trees etc – but their safety is your responsibility and no liability can be accepted for any accidents. Under no circumstances should fires be lit anywhere except for the campfire site in the yurt field. Please make sure all members of your party understand this rule. All gates are clearly marked if they need to be closed. We know the alpacas look cuddly but they don’t like being touched – so you will have to content yourself with watching them - please don’t let children (or adults for that matter) chase them as they are very easily stressed. Our sheep are friendly and if you would like to get close to them, we will give you some nuts so you can feed them. We keep lovely free range hens – but not near the campsite because they become as persistent as pigeons around food – just let us know if you would like to see them.
