About Hidden Valley Yurts
Hidden Valley Yurts is owned and run by Amanda and Peter Copp, who have lived with their two sons at Lower Glyn Farm since January 2003. Their 80 acre farm is set in the beautiful Usk Valley, Monmouthshire - right in the heart of the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The Wye Valley is famous for attracting holiday makers from all over the UK and Europe. Especially those who are looking for a peaceful holiday in the countryside. For a short while, Hidden Valley Yurts became a BBC TV film location for a reality TV show, but in truth Amanda prefers to have guests who enjoy the beautiful surroundings and just want to come on a lovely yurt camping holiday.
Gwent Wildlife Trust have listed Lower Glyn Farm as one of the best places for wildlife in Monmouthshire. Amanda and Peter are also members of the Monmouthshire Meadows Group. Both organizations have undertaken several surveys of the plants, insects, butterflies and birds found at the farm.
Lower Glyn Farm subscribes to Tir Gofal (which means care of the land in Welsh). This is an environmental scheme which was set up in 2000 and commits Amanda and Peter to actively encourage and nurture a diverse species of indigenous plants, birds and wildlife on their land. Belonging to the scheme also means they are committed to caring for the environmental, historical and cultural features on their land. Lower Glyn Farm was badly overgrazed when they first moved in and it is rewarding to see a significant increase of all species year on year. There are 43 acres of mainly native broadleaf trees, including some ancient woodland and 37 acres of old meadows - rich in wildflowers and herbage.
Rare birds, several varieties of bat and otters, dormice and crested newts have all been spotted by guests whilst camping in the yurts, and buzzards can be seen circling overhead most days. The lake is visited by herons and a kingfisher (re-stocking the lake with fish gives new meaning to feeding the birds).

Amanda runs Hidden Valley Yurts and The Authentic Mongolian Yurt Co. Ltd (the yurt sales side of the business). She also breeds Alpacas, and Jacob and Badger faced sheep. |
Peter started life as a sail maker and now has a day job selling high tensile membrane structures - the high tech end of the fabric building industry and about as far as you can get from yurt construction!
Developing the Hidden Valley Yurts campsite has been very much a labour of love with lots of physical hard work and also great fun. both Amanda and Peter are enthusiastic and practical people as well as being committed to improving the ecological value of their own piece of the planet!
Creating a genuinely eco-friendly alternative to the usual traditional camping holiday campsites has meant that families, groups, couples and friends return again and again to enjoy camping in a yurt - where luxury, comfort and ecological values combine naturally and easily. 'Glamping' or 'Cool Camping' - as yurt camping is often called - is the perfect choice for the eco conscious traveler who expects high standards of comfort.
Hidden Valley Yurts is always going to be work in progress and during the winter months, when the site is closed, Amanda and Peter continue to make improvements and add extra comforts for the next holiday season. It therefore isn't surprising that people of all ages and backgrounds have come to love 'glamping it up' in a yurt when they choose Hidden Valley Yurts for their unique holiday break.
