Our yurt field is situated on the far west of our valley farm - the south facing field is located alongside a stream bordered by trees and is completely hidden (as its name suggests).
This isn't a manicured sort of campsite - the terrain is steep in places and with the car park a fairly steep field away, you do need to be reasonably fit and active. The grass in the yurt field is left long (we will mow some paths through but we are keen to increase the wildflowers so need to leave it un mown until late summer. There are paths through the woods but no paved areas and except in long dry spells, there is always some mud and the short cut is through the stream, so pack your wellies or crocs.
Cooking Facilities
You can't cook inside the yurts (the felt would absorb the smells) so we have a large and well equipped communal kitchen situated in the middle of the yurt field (and Yurt No 1 has a separate smaller kitchen).
Our rustic kitchen and shower buildings are as sustainable as you can get - we built them out of larch felled and milled on our farm so the wood moved just two fields from growing to being used. Water is heated by solar and drainage is into a reed bed situated at the end of the field. All water comes from our own spring.
While it is rustic on the outside, we have tried to make sure the kitchen is equipped to make your stay as easy and enjoyable as possible. There are 2 LPG cookers, a microwave, large fridge freezer, ice maker, dishwasher (so you don't have to chase the children to do washing up duties), espresso maker, toaster, crockery and cooking utensils.
Each yurt has a barbecue and there is also one on the deck in front of the kitchen. Charcoal is available for sale - made by Gwent Wildlife Trust in a wood a few miles away.
Yurt no. 1 also has a smaller rustic kitchen alongside it - so may appeal to those who would rather not share the communal kitchen. However, this one has less sophisticated plumbing - only a cold tap and no drainage - but it does have a fridge freezer, LPG cooker, etc and is also fully equipped with crockery and cooking utensils. Guests using this yurt are still welcome to use the main kitchen.
Showers/Loos
We offer a few options for loos and showers. For those that would like a more rustic approach we have 2 compost loos and a small waterfall if you would like a really hardy shower............but we don't feel you need to suffer to be green.........so you can have the luxury of a solar heated bath or shower (topped up with conventional heating on cloudy days) and flushing loos - using our spring water (how posh to be flushing the loo with purest Welsh spring water!) - all drained into our reed bed.
Decked area and communal room and a few camp features

Between the kitchen and showers is an open fronted room for eating/playing games/storing the cushions. The south facing decked area has lots of tables, chairs, loungers and hammocks and overlooks the camp fire boules pitch, so you can keep an eye on the children while chilling out yourselves. We have a well equipped games shed with lots of lego, farm, board games, sports equipment etc. There are lots of books (children and adults), spare wellies, coats, throws and ponchos and information on local attractions.
The yurt field has a central camp fire location, badminton net and of course, the never ending attraction of the stream - we are delighted to see from our visitors book comments that that camp fires and daming the stream are still the No.1 favourite with the children - who needs Gameboys!
There are rustic tables and benches dotted around which we have made from our own wood.
But really, the main 'facilities' of Hidden Valley Yurts can't be shown on a website.......it's the peace, the birdsong, the wildlife, flora and fauna and the stream, it's meeting the animals, having a campfire under the stars and the miles and miles of unspoilt countryside - we'd love to share it with you.
